The annual RSA conference is a good time to look at where we’ve been and where we are going—to protect our data and our businesses from evolving attacks.
Welcome to the third age of cybersecurity
The evolution of cybersecurity can be traced back to three distinct stages. The first age, which I call “best-in-class siloed protection,” came about at the dawn of the internet and was characterized by fragmented cybersecurity measures. These measures, focused on individual components or aspects of security, often led to a disjointed approach. While they offered some level of protection, they also left gaps in security coverage and increased complexity for organizations managing multiple tools.
Recognizing the limitations of siloed protection, in the mid-2010s, we entered the second age of cybersecurity, which saw the rise of single-vendor platforms. These platforms aimed to provide a more integrated approach to security by offering a suite of products and services from a single vendor. This integration helped organizations streamline their security operations, improve coordination between different security functions, and reduce the complexity of managing multiple tools from various vendors.
As we enter the third age of cybersecurity, there is a growing recognition that no single vendor can provide all the necessary capabilities to protect against evolving threats effectively. As a result, there is a shift towards integrating solutions that combine products and services from multiple vendors into a cohesive security architecture.
Cohesity has led the way by creating the Data Security Alliance (DSA) to work across the industry and build integrations that solve real problems. For example, at the beginning of this year, we announced the general availability of our integration with Cisco XDR. During the conference, stop by booth 4429 in the north expo hall to learn about the possibilities our expanded integrations with DSPM partners like Palo Alto Networks, Cyera, and others will bring.
Cohesity at RSAC details
The theme of RSAC this year is “The Art of Possible,” and I’d be remiss not to look forward to what’s next. People have been asking to do more with their data for a while now. Whether it’s threat hunting with tools like Cohesity DataHawk, or the desire for more intelligence and analytics, the next step in security evolution is AI. We call it Cohesity Gaia, and you need to learn more about it.
RSAC has been an amazing place for forward-looking conversations for decades, and we’re here to listen and learn. We have a lot happening outside the booth for you to take advantage of.
Take a stroll over to the Expo Briefing Center at 2:40 p.m. on May 8, where our own Dale “Dr. Z” Zabriskie will sit down with Jeremy Embalabala of Hub International to discuss Hub’s cyber resilience journey.
Join us and our amazing partners as we celebrate what we will do together to protect the world’s data.
- May 6 at 6 p.m.: We’ll indulge in an evening of enchantment with our friends at BigID.
- May 8 at 6 p.m.: Cohesity and Tenable will host cocktails at the Marriott Marquis, which offers a spectacular view of the city.
- May 8 at 6:30 p.m.: Cisco and Cohesity will have an unforgettable evening at Charmaine’s Rooftop Bar & Lounge for innovative cocktails, gourmet bites, and great conversations.
Of course, if you want to have a more in-depth conversation and see how we’re helping the world’s largest organizations strengthen their cyber resilience strategies, you must schedule a meeting with our executive team.
A lot is going on in San Francisco from May 6 to 9. No matter how long you’ve been in the industry, the RSA Conference offers a unique blend of education, networking, innovation, and excitement, making it a must-attend event. As we get closer to the show, keep an eye on this space for more announcements, and make sure to join us as we come together to be inspired, learn, and connect to figure out what’s possible in the next era.
