We recently blogged about the need to manage secondary global data and apps in a single, unified way, which enterprises can accomplish with the combination of Cohesity DataPlatform and new Cohesity Helios, a SaaS-based solution. Today we cover how Cohesity also allows enterprises to derive meaningful business insights from their secondary data with Cohesity’s AWB.
When it comes to the world’s most valuable resource, Cohesity’s CEO, Mohit Aron, often refers to data as the new oil. Taking that thought a step further, being able to refine the oil (analyze the data) is where the real power of data analytics comes from.
With Cohesity AWB, organizations can meet business and compliance requirements by enabling application-powered data insights. AWB (Analytics Workbench) accomplishes this by allowing organizations to derive meaningful business insights from their previously untapped secondary data. Enterprises can then parse those same massive data sets and use them to prevent security events such as compliance violations.
AWB is powered by native MapReduce functionality and access to compute and storage resources, which enables in-place analytics to assist with business and compliance requirements. As a result, IT admins are able to:
- Eliminate unnecessary data copies and reduce the data footprint by leveraging the same data copy for analytics workloads.
- Meet business and compliance requirements.
- Build custom maps and reduce functions for running net new applications by uploading their own JAR files.
AWB’s apps
AWB comes with three applications to help save IT and business leaders time and cost – Pattern Finder, Password Detector, and Video Compressor – and it supports critical use cases, such as eDiscovery, threat analysis, and compliance monitoring. AWB will also help organizations meet their specific business requirements by allowing IT developers to easily create new custom applications by uploading JAR files.

Pattern Finder
Application searches for multiple patterns, such as d{3}-d{2}-d{4} at once – across a wide variety of files and formats from text and office files to PDF and Zip formats – in order to simplify discovery. As a flexible solution, IT admins can create custom patterns to continue meeting their business requirements and schedule the jobs to best fit their requirements.
Password Detector
Application searches for files with alphanumeric strings, leveraging the probability that a string is also a password, serial numbers, entity identities, etc.
Video Compressor
Application compresses video file formats, such as .mpeg, .avi, .mp4, .flv, .wmv, and .mov in order to reduce retained file storage sizes and data footprint.
