Cohesity announces Hackathon winners

Besides providing a great opportunity to learn fresh skills, the Hackathon also helped spark creativity and teamwork among participants.

Did you hear about the tech company that hosted a hackathon? Of course, you did.
That’s what we all do. It’s a key part of every tech company’s culture.

A hackathon—an event where people engage in rapid and hyper-collaborative engineering within a short time frame—is a great way to supercharge innovation.

Want to think bigger? Think differently? Or, just think? Challenge your colleagues to outdo themselves. Collaboration and creativity are sure to follow.

Hackathon details

The R&D team here recently sponsored a hackathon. The goal of the five-day competition? Collaborate cross-functionally to build a proof of concept and/or show how an innovation can be incorporated into our current operations. No playing favorites. No head starts. The best ideas win out and hopefully will find their way into our products.

Check out the numbers:

  • 96 projects were developed.
  • 52 projects submitted to a panel of judges.

The submissions included:

  • A five-minute or less demo
  • Elevator pitch
  • Problem statement, description, approach, and impact of proposed solution

A panel of nine judges narrowed the 52 projects down to 11 finalists.

Hackathon 2023 winners

Of those 11 finalists, there were three winners, based on overall scores.

1st Place—AIRAVAT: Make AI understand and operationalize Cohesity APIs.

2nd Place—Automated API Testing: Automated API contract testing & API coverage computation tool.

3rd Place—Microsoft 365 Sizer: Help predict onboarding time and deployment strategy.

Teamwork, creativity, and innovation

Congratulations to the winning teams! Besides providing a great opportunity for Cohesians to learn fresh skills, the Hackathon also helped to spark teamwork among the participants.

A senior member of the technical staff called the Hackathon, “..an incredible experience, fostering the exchange of diverse ideas and skills within our team.”

“The teams were passionately sharing their ideas and helping each other out, collectively pushing boundaries of what could be done within a week,” said a software engineering manager. “Seeing the transformation of concepts into fully functional products during the demo day was quite remarkable and inspiring.”

Creativity is when you think up new ideas. Innovation is when you put those new ideas into motion. The best part of a hackathon is when your colleagues innovate to transform concepts into viable products.

Stay tuned. Maybe the next Cohesity innovation was sparked in a hackathon.

And if you’re reading this and want to learn more about life at Cohesity, and want to supercharge your career, we hope you’ll check out our open positions.
