Cohesity expands support for Nutanix environments

Enterprises can now use Cohesity Data Cloud to secure and manage data in Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) running atop AWS and Azure bare metal.

Cohesity and Nutanix have long partnered to help organizations solve their most pressing data security and management challenges. Our shared customers have encouraged us to do more together, and we’re pleased to announce support for Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) solution on Cohesity Data Cloud. Organizations can now add NC2 environments to their Cohesity Data Cloud deployments with just a few clicks.

Organizations are managing more flavors of infrastructure than ever. Cohesity aims to have the largest ecosystem in the industry—and building world-class support for essential infrastructure targets is a priority for us. NC2 provides a simpler, faster, and more cost-effective way to extend, burst, and migrate apps and data to public clouds.

How it works: Cohesity Data Cloud and Nutanix Cloud Clusters

As organizations continue their modernization efforts, infrastructure targets and data sources continue to grow. Consequently, IT admins use multiple tools and solutions to balance performance, cost, and speed.

Here is where NC2 comes into play. As shown below, NC2 places the Nutanix Cloud Platform stack on the AWS or Azure bare metal instances. NC2 runs a Control VM over the bare metal instance, with the Nutanix AHV hypervisor, similar to any other Nutanix on-premises deployment.

Cohesity Data Cloud integrates seamlessly with NC2 as a Nutanix source for both NC2 on AWS and NC2 on Azure. This way, Nutanix users can extend  data protection and security capabilities to their data estate with minimal effort.

Benefits of NC2 for Nutanix admins

Nutanix Cloud Clusters help support IT admins backing up Nutanix environments in multiple ways. Some key benefits include:

  • Simplified and consistent IT management: Users can manage all their on-prem and public cloud workloads from a single management plane.
  • Intelligent and flexible workload placement: Applications and data can migrate seamlessly between cloud and on-prem Nutanix clusters while maintaining continuous data resilience.
  • Improved cost-efficiency and scalability: On-demand capacity and pay-as-you-go enable users to scale out or shrink capacity to meet resource demands, also improving TCO. Additionally, Nutanix license portability allows you to use your existing Nutanix licenses for NC2.

Benefits for joint Cohesity and Nutanix customers

Together, we help customers protect their Nutanix workloads with Cohesity’s suite of modern data protection solutions. Both organizations focus on providing simplified and hyperconverged solutions to customers with a focus on resilience. Cohesity added instant recovery capabilities for Nutanix AHV in our recent release, to help our shared customers minimize downtime and improve business continuity.

What does this combination mean for customers? Organizations can now realize long-standing security, scalability, and speed of recovery benefits—at a larger scale.

Security: Our Zero Trust security-first architecture includes core security capabilities, including:

  • Quorum, which empowers organizations to prevent unilateral changes to the platform by requiring multiple user authentication for any administrative changes.
  • DataLock, a time-bound write once, read many (WORM) lock on a backup snapshot that can’t be modified in our file system. It extends to cloud storage by incorporating an S3 object lock.
  • Strict access controls like granular role-based access controls (RBAC), multifactor authentication (MFA), and time-based one-time passwords.
  • Restricted shell access and SSO.

Scalability: For customers who want a solution that grows with their needs, benefits include:

  • A single UI management plane for protection across all workloads, on-prem to public clouds.
  • Dynamic disk inclusion and exclusion helps users achieve cost efficiency by scaling to workload demands.

Speed of recovery: Achieve near-instant Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) in the event of a cyberattack.

Watch the video below to see how to use Cohesity Data Cloud to restore your Nutanix workloads quickly and easily to minimize any business disruption.
