Dr. Dorren Schmitt
Senior Director Technology Engineering, The Weather Channel
Dorren brings more than 30 years of experience in IT. For over twenty years, she has led engineering initiatives in high-performance computer clusters, virtualization, enterprise application, data migration, AI initiatives, and transforming key applications to the public cloud at The Weather Channel. Her teams are responsible for the server, network, storage, and security infrastructure across the public and private cloud, and AI initiatives across the enterprise. Dorren is leading initiatives to retire legacy applications or move them to a public cloud or SaaS application and redefining the corporate digital transformation strategy.
Dorren has been the Board Chair for TAG DevOps society for the last four years and served on the board for eight years. She has been on the Advisory Board of Gwinnett Technical College for the CS department for 5 years, the Technology Board for Holy Cross High School in New Orleans, LA for 20+ years and the St. Joseph Academy in Baton Rouge, LA for 20 years. Dorren mentors rising Junior and Seniors high school girls in Sandy Springs, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge who are interested in STEM careers.
Dorren holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Secondary Education, M.ED in Curriculum and Instruction, M.A. in Applied Statistics, and a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics. Dorren has received various honors and awards during her career; including the first recipient of The Weather Company Leadership Award (2013 Q1), The Weather Channel Storm Award nominee 2005, 2009, 2011, and 2019 Woman of the Year for Women in Technology.
